Abstract

The adage ‘Honesty is the best policy’ seems applicable to leaders in the business world. Some individuals undoubtedly wish they had lived by the motto, such as Martha Stewart, who did jail time for lying, not for insider trading. However, being honest in business is not clear and simple. In this chapter we explore leadership honesty and integrity, critically analysing some of the honesty dilemmas leaders face and theorizing about consequences of both honesty and dishonesty among leaders.
