Abstract
(= Child well-being research is an international field of research that is receiving increasing attention in educational science. Studies on child well-being examine the living conditions and worlds of children from a normative perspective with ideas of good, fair, legitimate or desirable childhoods. The article examines the field of research in its interdisciplinary and social contexts, highlights current challenges in theoretical and methodological terms and highlights the influence of childhood research in each case. Examples of studies from an international research network on child well-being are presented, which explores how children themselves conceptualize and experience well-being and what conclusions can be drawn from this for theory development. The article concludes with a summary that highlights the potential of child well-being research for an educational science informed by difference and inequality theory.)
