Cobalt(II) complexes of some pyridinecarboxylic acids

A number of cobalt complexes of various pyridinecarboxylic acids have been prepared in absolute alcohol, and their properties compared with those of the aquo complexes. Most of the complexes have magnetic and spectroscopic properties typical of octahedral cobalt(II). The exceptions are those of the formula Co(6-MPAH)4X2.2HX, which contain the tetrahedral species [CoX4 2-], and the compounds Co(6-MPA)(6-MPAH)X, which, although they possess the spectral features of octahedral cobalt(II), have magnetic moments lower than expected for this configuration.
