Abstract

These two trial judgments date from April and June 2003, respectively. The latter is pursuant to a guilty plea and merits little comment. The Cardoso judgment is the product of a full trial. The author lists its many faults and wonders how it came about that the East Timor judges seem so isolated and disconnected from the mainstream of international criminal justice.
