Compact leaky wave antenna with periodical slots on half mode substrate integrated waveguide

Abstract

A leaky wave antenna implemented on a half mode substrate integrated waveguide with v shaped slot based on CRLH has been proposed in this paper. The slot adds to the series capacitance and acts as the radiator. The dispersion characteristics have been studied to understand the LH and RH region of operation. The structure is very compact and operates at high frequency in the range of 40GHz. The simulated and measured frequency response of the proposed antenna shows a wide bandwidth with a stopband between the transition from LH to RH region. The backfire to endfire narrow beam steering capabilities between -44° to 77° for the frequency scan of 32GHz to around 46GHz is illustrated. Simulated results show that the proposed structure radiates efficiently with high gain values.
