Abstract

The way that learning has been defined, as well as the beliefs about how it occurs, have vital implications for engaging learners. Teaching approaches are informed by learning theories. This review explains relevant learning theories so as to describe the developmental learning stages that individuals undergo. This paper aims to provide a brief yet comprehensive comparison of learning theories. More specifically, it will explain their central tenants, their differences and their similarities. Teaching methods and learning theories may facilitate educators' attention to their beliefs and their self-reflection. Furthermore, it may promote linkages between their theoretical knowledge as well as their practical and instructional experience. As a consequence, educators could acquire alternative ways to think about teaching and learning.
