Abstract
People with cognitive communication disorders (CCDs) present with deficits in social communication as well as text and discourse processing. Furthermore, their processing of figurative language and distinctive semantic features can be affected. Understanding and producing these semantic operations and phenomena rely on complex cognitive and language processing. However, no reliable diagnostic tool is available in German to assess these aspects of complex semantic processing. Therefore, we developed an assessment tool to test complex semantic processing in people with CCDs. This article introduces the KomplexSem Test in its current (beta) version and describes the steps in its development so far. Further, we completed three empirical studies to pilot the tentative subtests of the KomplexSem (Semantic Selection, Divergent Semantics, Definitions, Figurative Language). The next steps include collecting norming data for the KomplexSem Test and evaluating it with persons with CCDs.
