Abstract

The conclusion reviews the purpose of the book and describes the picture that emerges of Alexander Pope at the outset of his poetic career – a picture of his aspirations, capacities and fears – before coming to an end by pointing to some of the continuities and trajectories that may be observed across the earlier and later parts of his career.
