Abstract
The three dimensional (3D) printable prototype using rapid printable technology, consisting of Beam Deviating Surface (BDS) and Conical Rotating Surface (CRS) is proposed to show the conical rotation of the beam. First the beam is tilted to +/- 22.50, when BDS is kept above the feed horn source. Simultaneously, when CRS is kept above the BDS prototype, with the separation of 1 mm, the conical rotation of the tilted beam across the defined area is observed. Initially, the BDS structure is designed with a minimum side lobe level of -8 dB, at frequencies ranging from 10 to 15 GHz. Then by maintaining the defined phase gradient values, CRS structure is designed. The two structures are of 120 mm × 120 mm × 30 mm (4.8λ × 4.8λ × 1.2λ). The Voltage Standing Wave Ratio (VSWR) is less than 2 for all the degrees of rotation of CRS prototype as the BDS is kept static. This signifies the wideband steering capability of the designed prototypes. The gain values were maintained from 12 to 21 dBi throughout the operating Ku band range.
