As special issue co‐editors we are looking back to an inspiring and rewarding experience in preparing this special issue on “Contemporary Issues and Critical Challenges on Innovation in Services” for the Journal of Product Innovation Management. The journey was at times a challenge, but it was also tremendously fulfilling to work with the many motivated individuals that we met during this journey. First of all, we would like to thank Gloria Barczak as JPIM Editor in Chief and our guide on this special issue Odyssey. She not only recognized the potential relevance and impact of the special issue theme, but she was always helpful and supportive during the intricate process from submission to publication. Her input, guidance and perseverance have greatly contributed to the quality and potential impact of the special issue articles. Thank you Gloria! We would also like to thank the authors and reviewers who have contributed to this special issue. The reviewers we called upon in this special issue were always willing to provide guidance and constructive support for further improving and refining the manuscripts for this special issue. Likewise, the authors were always prepared to revise their manuscripts to align them with the reviewers’ suggestions to achieve further convergence and to improve the quality of the manuscripts. This process was a really enjoyable experience for the co‐editors and has led to a truly exceptional special issue. Finally, we would also like to thank our schools for their continued support during this truly extraordinary journey into service innovation.
