Abstract

Continuous wave emission on the phonon terminated 6H 13/26H15/2 2.9 μm phonon terminated transition of Dy3+ was demonstrated. A maximum output power of 0.275 W was produced at a slope efficiency of 4.5 (4.1)% with respect to the absorbed pump power. Strong ground state absorption of the laser light in the spectral region ∼2.9 μm led to large values of the pump power being required to reach threshold.
