    Abstract

    This composition was inspired by the music of John Coltrane, particularly during the early 1960s. However the piece is also written with the playing styles of Paul Cutlan, Alister Spence, Lloyd Swanton and Toby Hall in mind.

    Instrumentation: Alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, piano, double bass, drums.
    Duration: 10 min.
    Difficulty: Advanced — Ability to improvise over chord changes

    First performed 7 Mar 2019 at Foundry 616 Harris St Ultimo, Sydney. Featuring Paul Cutlan's Coltrane Project.

    This original musical composition explores the ways in which an Austral Jazz ‘affinity cluster’ (Robson, 2020), operates within the context of a larger ensemble setting, drawing upon precomposed musical materials.
