Abstract
Methyl formate, which has considerable importance in the synthesis of a wide range of industrial chemicals, can be produced by the copper-catalysed dehydrogenation of methanol. Copper chromite catalysts, which are particularly effective for the reaction, may not be completely reduced during pretreatment, and variations in the activity, selectivity and stability of the catalysts for methanol dehydrogenation can occur as a result.
