Abstract
Microgrids (MG) powered by renewable energy sources (RESs) are an essential aspect of the energy domain renaissance, as traditional power generation undergoes a tremendous disruption. In this paper, a global integral terminal sliding mode controller (GITSMC) based on exponential reaching law (ERL) has been proposed for solar photovoltaic (PV) system and battery energy storage system (BESS) - based direct - current (DC) microgrids (DCMGs). The suggested GITSMC smooths the flow of power in DCMGs and also offers large-signal DC-bus stability of voltage. The solar PV is coupled to the common DC-bus via a DC-DC boost converter (DDBC), whereas BESS is linked through a bidirectional DC-DC converter (BDDC). At first, a comprehensive dynamic model is created for solar PV and BESS. After that, the suggested control methodology is implemented on every DCMG component to obtain their respective control signals. The DCMG's asymptotic stability is demonstrated by the application of the control Lyapunov function (CLF). Lastly, rigorous simulation studies and meticulous comparison tests with an existing sliding mode controller (SMC) are used to figure out the viability of the proposed GITSMC scheme.
