Abstract
The first-order Hubbard-Onsager theory for dielectric friction on ions in homogeneous polar solvents has been extended to incorporate a stepwise inhomogeneity which models the effects of solvation. We find that dielectric friction provides an important component of the total drag on alkali-metal cations.
