Abstract
Background: Dysfunctional beliefs and the resulting interpretations of intrusions are the core element of the cognitive-behavioral model of OCD. Objective: The structure and psychometric properties of a German version of the Obsessive-Beliefs Questionnaire (OBQ), which aims to assess these, were examined. Methods: Confirmatory and exploratory factor analyses were applied to item responses collected in a non clinical (n = 247) as well as a clinical (n = 188) sample. Internal consistency, retest reliability, and convergent, discriminant, as well as criterion-related validity were examined. Results: The original structure could not be replicated and a reduction of the item pool was carried out. The shortened scales demonstrated satisfactory reliability and validity characteristics. Conclusions: Analyses suggest the implementation of a shortened version of the OBQ for the German translation.
