Abstract

The goal of this study was the testing of some hypotheses which result from the theoretical relation between the concepts of basic disorders and vulnerability; especially, a trait component of basic symptoms was searched. 57 healthy adults where investigated with a new questionnaire for measurement of basic symptoms (Basic Inventory Eppendorf, BInE); furthermore, the Continuous Performance Test (CPT), the Span of Apprehension Task, and a Modality Shift paradigm were conducted. BInE total score and CPT were significantly correlated (r xy = -.30). This correlation was due mainly to 23 Items (subscale "subjective effects of cognitive vulnerability", DEV) describing cognitive every-day failures, which were interpreted as trait basic symptoms. The DEV scale was further examined with 40 schizophrenic inpatients. As expected, schizophrenics reached a higher DEV mean score than the healthy group; the DEV scale again was correlated negatively with the CPT; the DEV scale correlated with positive syndrome. However, the CPT failed to show significant group differences.
