Abstract
The characteristics of the distribution of the platinum-group elements at the mineral and rock levels are on the whole readily explained by the platinoids differentiating during fractional melting of an upper mantle substrate with the formation of complementary basic melt and ultrabasic restite. The refractory platinoids accumulated in the dunite restite, while the clinopyroxenite-gabbro liquid was enriched in the more fusible ones. Further redistribution, has been due to fluid syntexis and serpentinization.
