    Abstract

Robert Banks married Linda Hope, treasured friend of my wife and me, in the Master's residence at Robert Menzies College on 30 July 2000. It was just two days after the wedding anniversary of Jonathan and Sarah Edwards, who were married on 28 July 1727. This year (2003) is the tercentenary of the birth of the great American philosopher theologian. I was privileged to speak at Robert's and Linda's marriage on the ways in which marriage is, in Jonathan's thinking, an analogy of the love of God. So it seems appropriate in this tribute to Robert's Christian scholarship to develop this subject further.
