Abstract
The double discharges in bi-polar pulsed dielectric barrier discharge lamps in Xenon and their influence on the VUV production efficiency were investigated. The time resolved VUV output was recorded using an N2 purged cell containing sodium salicylate phosphor screen and a photo-multiplier. A one-dimensional model was used to simulate the plasma kinetics and the electrical and optical characterstics of the pulsed-excited DBD Xenon Plasma. The results show that the VUV output from the secondary discharge is a significant fraction of the total output and that the overall discharge efficiency is nearly constant.
