Abstract

Review of Giuseppe Labisi: Dwelling Models of Umayyad Madā’in and Quṣūr in Greater Syria. (BAR International Series 3004.). Oxford: BAR Publishing, 2020. ISBNs: 9781407357225, 97814073572352.

Labisi’s book brings a solid, evidence-based approach to describing and understanding the role and significance of “living units” within much larger architectural constructions. It sets authoritative guidelines and techniques with which effectively to assess the major role of residential quarters in the Umayyad architectural tradition.
