Abstract
The rock forming minerals of a diamond bearing eclogite from the Mir pipe, in which garnent inclusions were found in the diamond crystals were analyzed. The observations stated that oxide concentration in rock forming garnet and garnet in diamond are the same, and the compositions in these garnets show differences in CaO and MgO content. The analysis of a high sensitivity proton probe for trace elements showed the differences in trace element content in the two garnets. It was also observed that garnets from eclogite are scarce in Zr and Yttrium. It can be concluded that the trace element distribution in garnets of the eclogite paragenesis differs in different kimberlite provinces.
