Abstract

A comparison is made between a full-momentum equation solution and an analytical laminar boundary layer solution for suction through a discrete porous strip of length ~5δ. It is shown that the full-momentum (i.e. Navier-Stokes) equations need to be solved in order to estimate the skin friction distribution correctly. Experimental results agree well with numerical calculations of a laminar boundary layer subjected to suction through a discrete porous strip of length ~1δ.
