Abstract
The flow and thermal structures in a solar hot water tank are studied experimentally in the laboratory. A simple passive flow control device for continuous pumping of the collector loop is tested. The effects of this device as well as an inlet flow diffuser are determined by performing several experiments with isothermal and stratified tanks. For all conditions tested there was some buoyant mixing in the tank but in most cases thermal stratification was preserved which would result in better collection efficiency.
