Abstract

This paper considers the problem of determining the optimal flying locations for multiple UAV base stations to maximize the number of connected users. We consider the case of non-uniformly distributed users. We propose an adhoc approach to find optimal 3D UAV placement using a gravity inspired clustering algorithm and a two-tier connectivity model. We compare our proposed approach with existing approaches and show that our proposed approach has significantly higher expected number of connected UEs than existing approaches.
