Efficient series-expansion-based physical model of Er-doped fiber amplifiers

Abstract

An alternative steady-state model for EDFA's based on Bessel- and Fourier-series expansions of the transverse energy-level densities in an Er-doped fiber is presented. This method is more flexible than the standard Giles model, and potentially more efficient than a full spatial model.
