    Abstract

This chapter seeks to offer a synthesis of and new insights into aspects of Elamite religion and art that find compelling parallels in Persian civilization. The likelihood that the genesis and key characteristics of the civilization created by the Persian Empire should be linked in time and space to the older Elamite civilization presents a model of continuity and forces the reckoning of a historical process of acculturation between Elamites and Iranians.
