    Abstract

Er,Yb:YCOB crystals have a number of favourable properties as laser hosts for 1.5-1.6 μm emission. We present the results from a study of the energy transfer mechanisms and a rate equation analysis of the population dynamics with a view to determining the optimum doping-concentration ratio.
