    Abstract

The literature postulating that the large, embayed quartz grains in deformed rocks in mineralized terrain are metasomatic rather than residual phenocrystic is reviewed and found wanting. If the quartz eyes are interpreted as phenocrysts, volcanogenic exploration models are pertinent.-G.J.N.
