Abstract
This chapter provides evidence-based guidance on what healthcare CIOs can do through their leadership to help their organizations deliver better healthcare outcomes. The fee-for-service healthcare delivery model remains the dominant approach in the US, though it is continuing to face pressure to evolve. CIOs can provide leadership and direction for integrating across all of these groups of people and the systems that support them, influencing change while ensuring the needs of each stakeholder group are addressed. CIOs need to take an outside-in view when determining the focus of their work, assessing population and community health needs to design systems that are adaptive and responsive to the times. The incoming call system routes the call to a Spanish speaking nurse making it easy for him to communicate. Because Leticia has linked her Continuous Glucose Monitor to an app on her mobile phone, the advice nurse quickly reviews her readings while speaking with Raul.
