Abstract

Galena geodes purchased as mineralogical specimens in Morocco are shown to be fake. The more spectacular geode simulates the rare non-isometric habit of galena. This habit occurs naturally in the Oued Mekta Mississippi Valley-type lead deposit, Touissit-Bou Beker region, Morocco. Touissit mine is well known for its fine specimens of several minerals, and local knowledge of the possibility of enhancing the appearance and value of these minerals is established.
