Abstract

We have been asked-and we have asked ourselves-how justified this venture is. Is there a place in the present state of historical studies in Australia and New Zealand for a new journal, and, at that, for a journal of religious history? The debt of Australian historians to the established historical journals, and especially to the pioneer Historical Studies, Australia and New Zealand and to the Australian Journal of Politics and History, is openly proclaimed by all those working with and for The Journal of Religious History. Must one add to their
number? The Editors are anxious to state, as they understand it, what
is in the mind of the members of the .4ssociation which has created the
journal and bears responsibility for it.
