Abstract
The Framework Agreement between Cyprus and Egypt on the ‘development of cross-median line hydrocarbons resources’, signed on 12 December 2013, illustrates the interaction between hydrocarbon discoveries and regional treaty practice in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea. The Cyprus-Egypt Framework Agreement establishes procedures for dealing with hydrocarbon resources which straddle, or are suspected to straddle, the Exclusive Economic Zone boundary between the two States. This chapter provides a background to the Cyprus-Egypt Framework Agreement and describes its main features.
