Abstract

This paper provides a convenient analytical method for estimating the bandwidth of the frequency comb generated by the application of frequency-shifted feedback (FSF) to semiconductor lasers. In addition, a figure of merit is defined for maximizing the product of the bandwidth and output power for the FSF laser and is shown to be strongly determined by the spectral width of the gain.
