Frequency extension of metal vapour lasers

Abstract

Frequency extension of the fundamental wavelengths of cyclic pulsed metal vapour lasers to the tunable visible and infrared has been accomplished by pumping of liquid dye and crystalline solid state lasers, and to the ultraviolet by nonlinear frequency conversion in bulk materials. Progress for these techniques is reviewed and novel approaches to metal vapour laser frequency extension are discussed.
