Abstract
This article begins with a discussion of the ways in which history and literature have been mutually dependent activities, then moves on to examine the usage of Australian history in Australian literature. It concludes with a consideration of the new historical directions contemporary Australian literature is taking in terms of 'fusion' literature and reflects on what this might suggest for the future practice of Australian history.
