Gain enhancement of microstrip antenna array using surface mounted horn

Abstract

We report a new compact square microstrip antenna array with surface mounted horn frame to achieve 4 dB gain enhancement. Horn frame is made of plastic sheet and painted with silver epoxy. Horn also improves side lobe level by 9 dB. We have obtained 15 dB and 18 dB gain for the 4 and 8 element array respectively.
