Abstract
Bea Johnson wrote about household waste in 'Zero Waste Home: The Ultimate Guide to Simplifying Your Life by Reducing Your Waste.' Bea, her husband, and two teenage sons, produce an astonishing equivalent of four cups of waste a year. She advocates a five R approach: refusing what we do not need, reducing waste, reusing products over and over again, recycling, and, rotting or composting organic materials. In particular, Bea avoids single-use plastics in the form of disposable plastic bags, bottles, cups, lids, straws and cutlery.
