    Abstract

Mitchell Deans book is the first introduction in English to the concept of governmentality. The concept is becoming increasingly anchor international order and is now used in a wide range of social science and humanities in the analysis of power, governance and politics. Dean draws on Michel Foucault works and analysts in a broad theoretical perspective which makes clear how governmentality analysis differs from other currents in society such as science, critical theory and modernity theory. Dean shows why governmentality concept should occupy a central place in the science community. And he shows how the concept offers a new direction for the study of power and control and the relationship between individual and state.
