Greek Australians in their own image: Jeremiah Williams – a 'Golden Greek' (1870s)

    Abstract

    Jeremiah Williams (Gerasimos Vasilakis), migrated from Greece and joined the rush to the Australian goldfields during the second-half of the 19th century. He was a member of the mining gang that extracted the 'Holtermann Nugget' from the Holtermann and Beyers mine at Hill End on the NSW Central-Western Goldfields in 1872. His was a member of the first collective settlement of Greeks in Australia located at Hill End–Tambaroora. Descendants still live in the district.
