Abstract

The Green Ribbon and Blue Ribbon Stories is a conceptual framework derived from Bidjara teachings. The conceptual framework has similarities with societal provenance and parallel provenance but is derived from Bidjara teachings and is uniquely Indigenous. The Green Ribbon and Blue Ribbon Stories conceptual framework is particularly relevant to settler-colonial states where archival records are often interpreted through the worldview of the colonizer only. Its application to archival records in settler-colonial archives is a right of reply process that supports truth-telling. This entry explores the use of the Building on the Strength of Our Stories (BoSS) training as evidence to demonstrate how this Indigenous framework encompasses a suite of archival concepts and applies them through an Indigenous worldview to generate a deeper understanding of settler-colonial records.
