Abstract

Tb-doped Ca4GdO(BO3)3 crystals were grown by the Czochralski method from Gd2O3, CaCO3, B2O3 and Yb2O3. The as-grown crystal, which was of excellent quality, was cut into a crystal sample and was investigated for laser properties. The crystal showed a good potential as Yb-doped laser material, but it is not suitable for self-frequency doubling.
