Abstract

A new combination of proximity coupled circular mlcrostrip antenna and a square quasi-planner surface mounted short horn is proposed to increase the gain of a compact circularly polarized antenna by 4.2 dB. This antenna structure has gain 10.39 dBi and over 3 dB beam-width (520) the axial ratio (AR) is 0.11 dB and the 3 dB AR bandwidth is 1.89%. The patch structure has 13% size reduction over normal circular microstrip patch antenna. Total thickness of stricture is only 0.22λ0.
