Abstract

In this paper, a high-gain, compact multiple beam / beam switching antenna based on reconfigurable frequency selective reflector (RFSR) is presented. The proposed antenna is fed by monopole and by configuring the switch states of the hexagonal cylindrical FSR, multiple beams or beam steering can be achieved along the entire azimuth plane. FSR can make transparent or opaque to a vertically polarized incident wave by controlling a switching device. Proposed antenna offers a gain enhancement of ∼ 3 dBi and size reduction of RFSR is upto 17% over a previously reported design. Moreover, the antenna performances are also improved in terms of antenna beam-width, radiation pattern and scanning capabilities. The simulation has been carried out for ISM band (fr=2.45 GHz) using ANSYS HFSS & CST Microwave studio software.
