Abstract

A knowledge-based approach for solving the communication problem for a top-down integrated circuit design methodology is presented. This approach offers an environment where knowledge specific to integrated circuit design can be included and applied to produce practial solutions. Powerful communication solving algorithms, such as graph embedding and optimal graph planarisation are available to the knowledge-based system as operators. These algorithms have their input provided and their output interpreted by the knowledge-based system. This scheme is especially efficient when circuit size is large.
