High power diode-pumped Tm-doped silica fibre laser in a double-clad pumping arrangement

Abstract

An experimental study was carried that relate the high power 790 nm source pumping the 3F4 of a specially designed Tm-doped double-clad fiber. In an initial experiment, a 5 m length of the Tm-doped double-clad fiber yielded approx. 1.8 W of output power when pumped with approx. 25 W from the pump source. The fiber laser cavity was formed by the Fresnel reflections from each end and the output measured at the unpumped end of the fiber laser.
