Abstract
This article explores ideas about the contribution that historical education might make to democratic citizenship. It surveys international literature on the subject, and considers what light this might throw on the Australian Curriculum: History, which holds as one of its aims that students should develop the 'capacity and willingness to be informed and active citizens'.
