History on screens: towards an Australian historiophoty

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Studies in the US and in Australia indicate that watching historical fiction-movies and documentaries, along with viewing photographs, are the primary activities through which people feel connected to the past. Screen-based histories are therefore highly significant in creating historical consciousness and in generating knowledge concerning the past. This is a chapter concerned with historical documentaries during the period 1950 - 2000, and their impact on history-telling.
