Abstract
The following interview with Peter Bart took place in Los Angeles on 22 April 2005 in his office at Variety, and was intended to update an earlier interview conducted in Sydney when Peter Bart visited Australia in 2000 (King, 2000). I see it as a way of bringing into a dialogue with the other pieces of criticism cited in this introduction to the special insights that Peter Bart offers on Hollywood filmmaking and which come from his many years of diverse involvement with that industry: from his time as a journalist with the Wall Street Journal, to his period as a studio executive, to his time as an independent film producer, his several books on Hollywood, his current, continuing role as editor of Variety, and his recent move into television with the TV programme "Shoot-Out", derived from his and Peter Guber’s book of that name, which he discusses at the opening of the following interview.
