Abstract
Industry-wide crises occur when multiple companies are alleged to engage in similar misconduct. During such crises, one or a few of the involved companies tend to receive punishment first. This research shows a novel effect: consumers’ observation of such punishment increases their punitive intent toward other involved companies.
